Leaders can't be solo players

When there are shortcomings in a leader's behavior, these can be overcome when his team members work hard and remain tenacious. However, there are more severe behavioral problems that make it practically impossible for their teams to perform well and significantly reduce their engagement. Micromanagement can be an example, even though it may sometimes be legitimate. To be a good leader, you should be aware of the following undesirable behavior as highlighted by Inc.com.

Do not be a hero

You do not always have to be the one who saves everything and reaps all the accolades. If you do not give your people a chance to shine, you will never win their respect. You should definitely not appropriate others accomplishments. Emphasize cooperation within your team and thank your team members for cooperating.

Do not do everything yourself

A leader can't be a solo player. He should ask his people for advice and suggestions in specific situations. He should create opportunities for cooperation and involve the whole team in the process of planning and problem solving.

Do not overestimate the time constraints of your people

Distributing tasks with no consideration as to whether the employees can handle them in the specified time and quality is short-sighted. It may cause burnout, but the smarter of them will have left you already before that happens.

Do not ignore opportunities to learn

One of the basic tasks a leader has is to develop the skills of his team, both individually and as a whole. He should be able to use all opportunities to teach the team something or facilitate the learning process. Your people should see that you are trying to help them improve.
