Gifts a leader can give to employees (1/2)

What gifts do employees usually receive from their employers? Some vouchers or parties are generally appreciated but a much more lasting gift is that of leadership.

There are several leadership attributes that you, as a manager, should possess. Be aware of who you work with; otherwise you will be in a guessing game and may fail to communicate effectively with team members.

Self-awareness

You must hold yourself accountable. If you do not, it will be pretty hard to demand the same of others. Always ensure you take responsibility for yourself. That will make you want to understand your own strengths and weaknesses. Have a clear idea of your own interpersonal preferences and how others perceive you. If you accept responsibility for yourself, you will be able to make necessary adjustments according to circumstances.

Awareness of others

It is not possible to work successfully with people if you don’t understand them. You need to know their likes and dislikes, as well as why they operate the way they do. You should be aware of the strengths and areas for improvement of your team members, according to an article on the management-issues.com website. You should see both the similarities and the differences in how you and your colleagues work and approach life. Also recognise that your colleagues may prefer different styles of communicating.

Show you care by giving feedback

By giving honest, considerate and timely feedback, you show you are investing time and energy in that colleague and you want them to do well. Help your staff to grow by giving them feedback on what they are doing well and what they could improve. Feedback should, of course, be offered in an authentic way.
