Engaged employees are safer
To keep the number of on-the-job accidents at a minimum level, you need to have your workers engaged. Use the intranet to remind them that your company is employee-minded. Engaged employees are more aware of important changes to policies and procedures, according to the business2community.com website.
- Post regular reminders of safety procedures. Don’t wait until you catch your employees ignoring important safety protocols.
- Include videos and images. Especially if you work with dangerous materials, words aren’t enough. Add some images to your descriptions.
- Conduct questionnaires and surveys. Don’t just tell employees what they are supposed to know. Test them regularly. Include surveys and quizzes that will allow you to assess whether more training is necessary. From physical security to cyber security procedures, you can always develop further training or offer new materials. And if your employees are well-informed, you will at least know that current processes are working.
As your business grows and changes, you’ll need new employees. Disengaged employees won’t let their friends and relatives know that you’re hiring. If, however, your employees are actively engaged in the business and feel that you care about them, they can help you a great deal with recruiting new staff. This opportunity will be examined in the second part of this article.
