The secret of indispensability

We are changing jobs more and more often. Many of us are also involved in more projects at the same time than in the past. The desire for change is mainly mental. As humans, we long for open personalised systems, and today's labour market favours this.

The ability to adapt and prosper continuously in one's own work (our adaptive quotient) requires constant learning and cultivation. We need to demonstrate the power that comes with ownership of growth thinking. We need to be able to play and invent in order to increase our resilience and strengthen our competencies.

Modern ways of working require making consistent use of our cognitive abilities, creative energy and collective genius. Fluency and development are the hallmarks of today's dynamic world of work - the ability to move quickly and deftly in the midst of constant change. It is a sign of strength in times of uncertainty. Those who excel at a company easily pass through the system. Cultivating such a practice means looking for changes, constantly improving and being professionally oriented towards the future, which imposes demanding requirements.

In contrast to this, many employees today function as applications on a smartphone and sit on top of the company's operating system. They are "selected, downloaded, updated, shared and deleted" as needed. The robustness of this system threatens some jobs. The burden falls on us to protect our own positions. Some other factors can also help with this:

Intuition: Practice self-awareness and stay aware of your "teammates" and the entire organisation.

Commitment: Commit to something bigger than yourself and do it. Let your care and quality of work speak for you.

Relationship: Build relationships in depth, not breadth.

Overview: See the world from above and remain open to possibilities.

Integration: Connect the projects and tasks for which you are rewarded to support your inner working life.

Creation: Create, experiment and take care of yourself and others with enthusiasm.

Trust: Trust is gained through courage over time and reputation.

Overview: Always have an idea (on an individual, collective and company-wide level) of what needs to be done and addressed at a given moment.

These qualities are factors that affect both your fluidity and durability. They represent one way to deal with volatility and maintain a diverse and agile approach to work that sets you apart from the crowd.
