Clean up your mind: identify the thoughts that limit your success

To a considerable degree, our success in life depends on what questions we ask. We may ask them outwardly as well as inside our head, talking to ourselves.

Appropriate questions can help you realise how your mind may be currently framed. And you might want to change that framework.

The right questions lead to the right answers – or at least to the right paths. The questions we ask serve to focus our attention and steer our energy in a certain direction.

So we should have good questions in order to focus our efforts on the right things. You can use questions to examine your beliefs and thereby possibly liberate yourself from any beliefs that are limiting you.

This claim comes from an article on the addicted2success.com website. So what are the questions to ask?

1) Is your belief true?

Try to think of something you automatically consider to be a fact. Once you are able to recognise that there is a certain fixed belief in your mind which is shaping your thoughts and actions, take a step back and think critically.

Often your belief will make sense but sometimes it takes only a little time for you to recognise how that belief is holding you back or influencing your behaviour in a negative way.

2) How exactly does your belief affect your actions?

Analyse your feelings. How does the belief make you feel? What kind of emotions does it foster?

For example, if you start thinking that you cannot achieve success, you will probably begin experiencing frustration, rage and perhaps even guilt. Cautious, self-analysing reflection will give you a better idea of how your beliefs form the basis of your actions and that they do so by having an impact on your emotions.

3) How would your daily life look without such thoughts?

Try to imagine how your behaviour would change if you didn’t follow certain thinking patterns. In the case of the most limiting ones, you would surely be more successful – or, generally speaking, at least you would have much a better chance! This perspective might give you the boost you need in order to eliminate the limiting beliefs you have identified.
