Do you have a scarcity mindset?

A scarcity mindset means you are overly afraid of losing your salary or profits. This leads to a diminished appetite for risk and possibly the notion that there is only a limited amount of success to be had in the world and this is somehow distributed amongst people.

The advantages of the opposite mindset, namely the abundance mindset, are that it focuses on looking for growth opportunities and accepting risks that are worth taking. So change your perspective and start thinking differently.

Be willing to make the transition

First, acknowledge that you are thinking within the constraints of the scarcity mindset. It is rather like when you want to give up smoking.

You need to admit you are somewhat addicted to an unproductive way of thinking. Then you have to make the commitment to stop doing this and live differently. As with giving up smoking, you need to get things back under control.

Start looking for better opportunities. What will be especially demanding is the way you view other people's suggestions. Don’t perceive these as a threat – and also don’t consider the people to be a threat either.

Remember, the notion of abundance is not only about wealth. It is also about you wanting to experience more. And you want to help others more. It is about the willingness to change and have a positive impact on people close to you.

Stay committed

According to an article on the addicted2success.com website, you need to realise that it is exhausting constantly to be afraid, say, of your car breaking down. It is all about being confident that if it does break down, you will manage to repair it or get another one.

Are you an entrepreneur? If so, you probably have an abundance mindset. That's fine – but you need to keep going. Work on your ideas, don’t allow setbacks you encounter to put you off. You don’t have to be madly optimistic: just anticipate potential problems and plan in advance how you will deal with them. Always be prepared to work long and hard.
