Seven habits that will help you boost your self-confidence

A long-term successful manager, just like anyone aspiring to a managerial position, must possess healthy self-confidence. By no means does this involve being a narcissistic egoist or an authoritarian micromanager. It means being aware of one’s strengths, able to appear competent and confident at the right moments, and inspiring confidence in others that assigned tasks will be completed successfully. Fortunately, healthy self-confidence can be developed and this article describes how, using seven simple everyday habits.

Finish sentences

This may sound strange but many people when speaking fail to finish their sentences. The result is that their speech lacks structure and comes across as insufficiently confident or coherent. Next time you are talking to someone, make sure you express yourself in complete sentences and that you finish them.

Set clear short-term goals

Increase your confidence in your own abilities by setting clear short-term goals. You will be able to achieve them more easily, which in turn will strengthen your self-confidence.

Focus on your strengths

Don't dwell on what you are not good at. Instead, focus on your strengths. Develop and make full use of them, both in your professional and personal life.

Accept that everyone makes mistakes and face up to them

The mistakes we make often have a destructive effect on our self-confidence. Try to change your approach to them: accept mistakes as a natural part of the path toward success and growth, face them with courage, and learn from them.

Move your body

Physical activity, be it walking, cycling, exercising, weight training or anything else, provides a boost of endorphins and enhances your confidence for several days.

Dress in a way that makes you feel good

Your clothes play a key role in how confident you feel. Dress in a way that leaves you with no doubts about your appearance and makes you feel comfortable, and therefore confident.

Focus on non-verbal communication

The non-verbal signals you send to others reveal a great deal about you. Learn to project confidence through your posture, gestures, eye movements and facial expressions. You will soon notice that you actually begin to feel more confident as well.
