Encourage internal debate within the team
According to CIO.com, the first thing is not to kill debate or sometimes even disagreement within the team. A manager does not have all the answers. So instead of strictly stating how things should be, you ought to give team members the space to discuss their opinions internally. Encourage diversity, allow also opinions you disagree with to be discussed and lead debates on how things could be done differently.
Support individual employees' strengths
Every employee has strengths and weaknesses. For the good of both employee and team, it is advisable to support what each person is good at and enjoys. Do not try to remedy weaknesses of individual employees; instead, concentrate on developing their strengths.
Have an ongoing dialogue with subordinates
In order for your employees to perform at their best and be as productive and happy as possible, you must not build a wall between them and you. You need to have an ongoing dialogue with subordinates and continuously find out what bothers them, what they enjoy, what their opinions are and what ideas they have for improvement.
Deal immediately with any signs of toxic behaviour
Last but not least, ensure all employees can work in a healthy, inspiring and safe environment. Any potential of individual workers is hampered if they have to deal with toxic behaviour, bullying, excessive stress, or other negative circumstances. Any signs of toxic behaviour (bullying, over-competitiveness, workaholism, etc.) in subordinates must be dealt with immediately and uncompromisingly.
