Dust off your LinkedIn profile

Have you started spring cleaning yet? This year, try to also incorporate dusting off your LinkedIn profile into it. At least that’s the recommendation made by the mashable.com website in an article called 6 Ways to Spring Clean Your LinkedIn Profile, where it reminds that this is the social network that’s crucial for the presentation of your career on the Internet. LinkedIn is very well optimized for search engines, which is why it is your profile on LinkedIn that’s displayed as the first search result when someone enters your name into Google.

So what should you dust off?

1. The photo

If your profile does not include a professional photo yet, it’s high time to have your photo taken by a professional or at least by a good amateur. Your photo should be as recent as possible.

2. Work experience description

Try to make your job history livelier. Expand the description of your skills and be more action oriented: for example, write “social media enthusiast” instead of “social media.”

3. Links

Add links to your personal website or your company’s website to your profile.

4. Empty spaces

Fill in all the parts of your profile that are still empty. Half-filled profiles send the message that you do not complete your work.

5. Irrelevant skills

In your skills description focus on skills that are crucial not only for your current field, but also for the field in which you would like to get involved in the future.

6. Recommendations

Ask your former managers and colleagues to confirm your skills and abilities.
