We need to replace static, outdated business models with new dynamic ones better suited to the environment we are living in. For that, understanding the links between the individual and the collective is necessary.
Individuals who are indifferent, cynical or unfocused can by no means lead a successful company. Behavior and attitude can be infectious therefore a positive, enthusiastic boss has a direct impact on those around him or her. Neuroscience confirms that. It is important to keep this in mind.
Five levels of personal effectiveness
Generally, 5 distinctive levels of personal effectiveness are recognized. Starting from level 1 - lifeless or apathetic and going to level 5 - limitless and passionate. To identify the level at which a leader is operating it is useful in identifying typical thought patterns. This can be achieved via deploying various in-depth interviews and questionnaires. For example, at the lowest level people often say "I feel demoralized / I cannot win", while at the top level they claim "I inspire people to achieve their unlimited potential".
Leading the organizational shift
There are multiple and complex interactions between individuals and the broader community at the organizational level. But still, the concept of different levels of effectiveness can be applied. We often get used to thinking that structure in business is concrete. Yet it isn’t. All you have are people, coming to work and trying to do their jobs. The organization is not a structure, it is a living community. Managers have to be communicators and motivators.
