Does it happen to you that you call a meeting and the participants' behaviour clearly shows that sitting with you at this meeting is a waste of their time? Then it is time for you to consider whether there is a reason to be met, and if so, whether the participants know it. How can you find out that the problem with your meetings is in yourself?
You did not prepare an agenda
Always before you call a meeting, remind yourself that the time of your people is precious. If you force them to participate, they will resent you. You have certainly heard many times that a meeting without a pre-outlined agenda makes no sense. So you should finally take it seriously. Clearly define what you want to achieve and in what time frame.
You are dismissive
Preparation is important. However, you should not prepare to the extent that your opening speech will take the whole previously specified time of the meeting. Do not give a presentation to an anonymous audience, look people in the eye, establish a dialogue as soon as possible, do not overwhelm them by excessive amounts of data and learn to listen more than talk.
You behave too informally
If you stand in front of people you are not very familiar to, beware not to be too familiar right from the beginning. This might unnecessarily discourage your audience.
You play with your phone
The best thing you can do is not to bring your phone to a meeting at all or turn it off or just when you enter the meeting room. Once you start to look at your phone during the meeting, you will send the signal to all those present that you do not have a basic respect for them.
You speak just to speak
Be careful to let everyone participating in your meeting speak, not just yourself or the loudest. The fact that you are talking all the time will not show that you are right or that your words have a real value. Often it will be just the opposite.
