Learn to speak in a way others like listening to

Communication skills are key to success in any given field. Be it personal life or career development,without the ability to communicate effectively with others, you might be unnecessarily wasting your potential. In leadership, presentation and communication skills are essential; without them, you can never sufficiently motivate, inspire and lead others. Make pauses

According to the McKinsey company blog, people are often so happy to have the chance to speak that they start talking without a pause. But short silences can be an extremely powerful tool that enhance parts of your speech and attach importance to certain words. Do not be afraid to pause and allow others enough time to process what you are saying.

Speak slowly

The previous point is connected to this piece of advice: don't be in a rush. Someone trying to say as much as possible at once comes across as being of afraid of others not listening to them or taking them seriously.

Emphasise the right words

Intonation, stress, pauses: these are very efficient tools that can help emphasise the importance of some parts of your speech. When you reach the key point of the message, always emphasise it and try to structure the delivery in some way: it should not be just one long monotonous stream of words.

Speak calmly, but clearly and boldly

Your voice should display calm and deliberation, but also confidence. Unfortunately, if your speech is weak and timid, no one will take you seriously. Show you mean what you say by speaking boldly enough.

Adapt to the person you are talking to

One of the most effective ways of making others like listening to you is to adjust your speech to theirs. Use the same expressions, gestures and energy, and you will see how quickly you win over the other person.

Speak positively and do not badmouth anyone

This last point is also one of the most important. People do not want to listen to pessimists or anyone who is badmouthing others. Try to look at things in a positive manner and show this attitude also in the way you speak.
