Five problems caused by not supporting employees' mental well-being

Some managers still tend to underestimate the importance of promoting mental health in their subordinates. And this approach is not paying off. Why? Because if you do not support their mental well-being, you will have to face the following five problems.

High employee turnover

If an employee does not look after their own mental health, and is stressed or unable to address any mental health issues they may have, sooner or later they will become disgruntled. And before long they might also leave the company. If you take no interest in subordinates' mental health, you can expect to see an increase in turnover.

A tarnished employer brand

Disregard for its employees' mental health can have a very negative effect on how a company is perceived as an employer. Companies with a good employer brand, on the other hand, are those that regard looking after the mental health of the workforce as one of their priorities.

Reduced employee productivity

Workers who do not have a work-life balance and are viewed as machines rather than people are at a higher risk of burnout. They are also less productive in the long run than happy employees whose mental well-being is better taken care of.

Higher sickness rates

Mental discomfort also leads to higher sickness rates among workers. It is not only a matter of obvious mental illnesses, but also psychosomatic symptoms and physical ailments caused by the reduced immunity of desperate workers.

Impaired team flexibility

A team where psychological well-being does not prevail and whose workers are on the verge of burnout or stressed out can hardly face unexpected challenges or crises. So while under normal circumstances nothing may seem to be happening, these weaknesses are bound to show when the team has to confront problems.
