Criticize or praise? Both is important!

It is said that managers should focus on correcting mistakes of new people and praising employees who are in the company for a long time. According to recent studies, it may not be right.

It turned out that positive feedback (ie, praise) helps motivate new employees to persevere with challenging tasks. Conversely, criticism of those who are at a certain position for a long time, help them focus on how they can improve.

The most interesting finding was that of experienced experts who said to even prefer negative feedback! They claimed that continual praise does not encourage a further improvement.

The balance of praise and criticism

Of course it would be wrong to say to an employee who does not work well, that everything is all right. However, it is important for everyone to have both kinds of feedback - the good and the bad.

Therefore, the key is to criticize in the right context and explain how to improve. New employees can be motivated by showing them as their little partial successes lead to a better overall success and skill development.
