Try to honestly answer the question how many times you have read or watched the news today. Then, answer also the question what you could have done instead. Craig Jarrow, American consultant, columnist and author of a successful book titled Time Management Ninja, points out to the fact that the purpose of news is to inform, educate and stimulate discussions on important topics. In reality, however, news mostly concerns various sensations, is meant for entertainment purposes only and wastes you of time.

On his blog, Jarrow summed up ten reasons why to stop checking the news. Try to inspire by them whenever you will tend to open a news site or turn on the TV at work.

1. News does not change very often so you do not have to watch it twenty times a day.
2. Most news has no meaning for you.
3. You cannot believe everything you read, especially on the Internet.
4. Most news is trying to scandalize rather than seriously inform.
5. Most news is processed superficially and covers superficial topics.
6. Most news does not bring anything new.
7. Facebook is not a spy tool so that you should check it every five minutes to see what your friends are doing.
8. Many "experts" who present themselves in the media are not real experts.
9. Watching the news is a waste of time just only because of the ubiquitous advertisements.
10. Most news is negative.

Instead of reading random news or watching TV during the whole day, it is much more effective to set your RSS for the topics and sites that interest you.
