An overview of the measures planned to be taken in vehicular traffic and the automotive industry in individual countries in order to reduce emissions was published by CNN.
Hybrids will be banned too
Like the United Kingdom, France recently announced that, in the fight against global warming, it would ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars by 2040. Car makers will then be able to sell only electric cars or cars driven by other clean energies. Hybrid cars will be banned.
India, with its cities being the most polluted in the world, is even more radical. After 2030, only electric vehicles will be sold there. At first glance, it doesn't seem very realistic. In the coming years, however, a significant increase in car sales is expected, given the fact that cars will be more affordable for the middle class. If these people can buy electric cars, India can overtake other developing countries.
The fastest ban is being prepared in Norway which plans to ban the sale of air polluting cars from 2025. Today, electric and hybrid cars make up 40% of all cars sold in Norway.
Targets for electric car sales
According to the International Energy Agency, fixed targets for the volume of sales of electric vehicles have been set by at least 10 countries.
The countries include China, Japan, Korea, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Spain and Portugal. The United States doesn't have common federal targets in this respect, but several states have already set their own goals.
China is the largest car and electric vehicle market. Forty percent of all electric cars in the world, twice as many as in the US, are sold here.
