Millennials and women: How they define success

It is true now, more than ever, that we are in control of our destiny and success is in our own hands. It is our choice how to achieve success, which is now beginning to be defined as satisfaction and hard work. It seems that millennials and women are aware of the fact that money is not always the single and best indicator of success, claims the business2community.com website. After all, even if you are a multimillionaire aged 70, but you  are still single and always wanted to have a large family, you can not honestly feel that your innermost aim has been achieved.

Renewed focus on work life balance

Financials are really important for every manager or business owner, no doubt about it. But when we talk about success, it is often more about work life balance, since success is in the eye of the beholder. According to recent Spark Business Barometer, a survey conducted by Capital One, a bank holding company based in the US, 69 % of women consider work-life balance to be the core of success in life. Men think the same less often, 58 % of them agrees with that belief.

Gender gap in setting up restrictions for ensuring work life balance

While more women define the success in terms of work life balance, they are less successful than men in achieving conditions favorable to this goal. Women set fewer boundaries. Compared to men, they are 9 % less likely to be able to work at home and they are 10 % less likely to reduce the time they spend on business trips.  The gender wage gap still makes it difficult for women.

What millennials think

They agree that success defined in terms of money and power doesn’t continue to hold today. While Time Magazine back in 2013 labeled millennials as lazy and entitled, many argue that is not true. They do want to work hard and even become entrepreneurs, but not in the old way. Internet and modern technology enable this and has opened doors for them to start new business models. So success should be defined by both financial gains, relentless work and achieving fulfilling personal life.
