Communication skills
As the Brian Tracy blog states, communication skills are essential. After all, a manager has to communicate all the time. If they are unable to do so effectively, that is a major obstacle.
Enthusiasm for a common vision
A manager must be able not only to enthuse other people but, above all, be enthusiastic themselves. If a manager does not believe in their own vision and lacks enthusiasm for it, they can hardly expect enthusiasm from their subordinates.
Healthy self-esteem
Even the best communication skills are of little use if the manager does not have sufficient, yet healthy self-esteem.
Being organised
If a manager wants to organise the work of their team, they must start with themselves. A team leader must be organised, have things in order and be able to work out a reliable system in the team's processes.
Positive world view
No one wants a grumpy manager. A manager must be able to lift the spirits of subordinates even in times of crisis. Cultivate a positive world view and always focus on opportunities, not problems.
Do not fear change
A manager must be flexible. For their team to thrive, the manager must accept the fact we live in an age of constant and rapid change. They cannot fear change; on the contrary, they need to regard it as an opportunity for themselves and their team.
