Four signs that you are not a good leader

No one wants to be a bad leader. However, every manager should possess a certain level of self-reflection and be able to admit when something is not working. How to recognise that you may not be the best leader and it might be time to improve your managerial skills? Here are four key signs.

Stagnating or declining team performance

When a leader is ineffective, the team's productivity tends to suffer. If your team is stagnating or its results are declining without any objective external reasons, it may be a sign that the team is simply being poorly led.

High team turnover

Do team members come and go frequently? High turnover is one of the most common symptoms of failing leadership: in today’s environment, people are rarely willing to remain long under a poor manager.

Subordinates' reluctance to share problems or suggestions

When employees do not trust their supervisor, they are unwilling to confide in them, especially when it comes to problems, negative issues or their own suggestions. If your subordinates remain excessively quiet, never challenge you, and do not confront you with their own opinions, the reason may be an inappropriate leadership style.

Your own feeling that managing people is not your strength

A poor manager usually senses it themselves: if you have any self-awareness at all, you may feel deep down that your leadership is not going well. But this doesn't mean things can't improve: on the contrary, an awareness of one's own shortcomings is a key and inseparable part of solving the problem.
