LinkedIn polls

For some time now it has been possible to set up a poll on LinkedIn. Simply select the "Create a poll" option when creating a new post. Polling on any topic relating to your work or interests is a very attractive and effective way to engage your network, enable people to debate, learn something new in your field and also gain valuable data for future work or promotional activity.

Video

Of course, video has been possible on LinkedIn for years. However, even though this format is extremely popular with users and can engage anyone, it is still surprisingly underused. Even plain text repurposed with a simple video programme often has more impact than a traditional written post.

LinkedIn events

Similar to Facebook, events can be organised on LinkedIn. These can be physical, virtual or just purely informative. Likewise, they can be audio-only or completely external. As the host, you can invite speakers and attendees to the event. So if you are promoting an event you yourself are organising, be sure to take advantage of the opportunity to create a LinkedIn event.

Be active

The general advice for building a strong personal brand is to be proactive. Comment on relevant posts, tag contacts in your posts and bring up interesting and ideally somewhat controversial topics. If you are just a passive part of your network of contacts, you will never be seen as much of an authority in your field.
