Test your listening skills

Nobody wants to work for someone who does not respect him and who is not able to listen to his views. Each manager should, therefore, realize how important it is to listen to his people. It is not as obvious as it may seem at first glance. Try to examine your ability to listen with the help of this article. Honestly answer the following questions compiled by the PM Hut website.

  1. Is Active listening a part of your daily work?

  2. Do you really listen to others providing your full attention? Don't you try to interrupt and impose your own  solutions?

  3. Can you perceive even the things that are not expressed directly? Can you ask questions?

  4. Do you use listening to offer others an opportunity to prove their strengths and show off their knowledge?

  5. Are you sincerely interested in appreciating the efforts and achievements of others?

  6. Do you see listening as an opportunity to learn new things?

  7. How do you act when a conflict arises? Do you tend to look for common ground and solutions, or to prove that you are right?

  8. Are you empathetic? Are you trying to see things from the others' perspective?

  9. Do you tend to think positively and not to listen only messages about things that can't be done?

  10. Does listening help you improve your relationships with your subordinates?

If you answered "no" to some of these questions, you have a lot to do. What about finding a good trainer of communication skills?
