Leadership inspiration from the world of music

A conductor is a leader who creates a complete harmony without saying a word. That is a perfect example to follow, even in the world of business. If you are interested in getting inspired from some of the world's most outstanding conductors of the 20th century, watch the TED talk entitled Lead like the great conductors by the Israeli conductor and consultant Itay Talgai. While this talk, first given in 2009, shows a bit of an unusual view of leadership, it still attracts the attention of people who want to further develop their leadership skills.

Itay Talgai tested his theory of business leadership inspired from the world of music on himself. After working as a conductor, he became a successful consultant and author of an educational program called the Maestro Program. In the program, he teaches people how to make sense of cooperation and networking within a team so that their orchestra can play a perfect symphony. He emphasizes listening skills, the ability to feel subtle nuances and how to react immediately. Then the best possible tone can be produced with just one gesture.

Talgam's TED talk presents examples of six conductors in the heat of their work. Talgam uses these clips to describe different leadership lessons. You can watch the video here and the transcript is available here.
