How to strengthen your career capital

It takes a long time to build your career capital at the workplace. Or maybe you are among those who tend to use it rather than build it. And then you may find that you run out of your career capital and it may be time to rebuild it.

  1. Start returning favors from earlier. If someone has helped yout, ask what you can do in return. When you help them with work, your deed will have a great reach.
  2. Suggest a new project. If you merely show that you are available, you will likely get to do something that nobody wants to do. Instead, go to your supervisor and offer your ideas and extra energy.
  3. Attend a professional event. Networking pays and, most importantly, make yourself visiable to everyone.
  4. Learn something new. Thus open yourself to the world of new possibilities. For example, when you improve your writing skills, you can become an expert in their field and penetrate to new customers via your articles.
  5. Read more. It is amazing how many people from fields dependent on new discoveries do not read quality publications. If you go on a longer journey, don't forget to pack a decent professional magazine instead of the People magazine.
