How not to make New Year's resolutions

Have you made a New Year's resolution this year? You are quite possibly not making any resolutions because experience has shown that you would not keep them. Now you probably expect some tips on how to make New Year's resolutions properly so you could keep them. And you are right ... but only partially. In fact, we are offering a summary of recommendations for some resolutions you should never make.

1. I will stop behaving in the way I have behaved for the last ten years

This category includes such resolutions as to quit smoking or overeating, to stop being a workaholic or someone who starts arguments too easily. Such a change cannot happen in a week or a month. If you want to succeed, you have to set smaller, more gradual goals.

2. I will go on a diet

Most diets do not work. Rather resolve to eat more healthily and to exercise more.

3. I will lose 20 kilos

This looks like a specific goal. However, in order to achieve it, you need a clear plan for individual steps. If you do not know how you want to achieve your goal, you will not achieve it. And remember that your plan must be based on realistic goals.

4. I will do something every day

No matter whether you want to exercise or do something else every day, it is not realistic. You will probably not have enough will power to change your daily habits immediately. Again, follow a more realistic plan.

5. I will change a key part of my personality

Any personality change is a very difficult issue which requires consultation with an expert, such as a psychologist. You can better subdue your character traits rather than change them completely.
