Are you the right type to work from home?

Working from home may sound like the ideal solution for employees who live far away from the office or who would like greater flexibility in their time scheduling. But it’s not always the right solution. So when should you refuse an offer to work from home? Cbsnews.com offers the following advice:

When your employer isn’t ready for working from home

Make sure that your employer also offers you the corresponding technological infrastructure along with the option of working from home. Working from home requires clear defining of tasks, the setting of work allocation processes as well as support from the office. If this is missing, you may soon find yourself in the isolation of a home office and lose track of what you’re supposed to be doing.

When you prefer teamwork

If you most prefer to be constantly surrounded by people and you look for group activities even in your free time or on the weekends, think twice. If you need to see other people around you in order to feel like you’re a part of the team, working from home isn’t the right thing for you.

When you’re better at personal communication than virtual communication

Do you prefer meetings where you’re looking directly into the people’s eyes and not through a screen or when you don’t see them at all? Then conference calls and emails will soon exhaust you. In this case it’s ideal to choose a compromise and come to the office at least some of the time.

When you have a lack of motivation

Honestly answer the question of how you work when nobody is watching you? Can you become self-motivated? It’s more difficult than you may think.
