Seven questions to ask yourself before starting a business

You don't have to be a millionaire to develop a business. Much more important than initial financing is your mindset. So start by asking yourself questions that will lead to establishing a solid foundation.

Who am I?

Who you are is not based on some designation by society or your school. Look deeper inside yourself. What do you like to do in your free time? What are your values? Who do you want to work with? What are you trying to achieve? What are your personal goals?

Who can you serve?

The world around you is a reflection of your own inner world. By knowing yourself, you can see how your strengths can serve others. Who is your ideal client? What skills or expertise do you have which can solve clients' problems? Why should people choose you? How do you gain their trust?

What are your main strengths?

Every one of us was born with certain natural abilities, none of which is good or bad: it's just a matter of offering them to the right people. That's why it's best to be honest with yourself. If you are honest with yourself, it means you are honest with other people.

Here we can go a step further: Do you enjoy writing? If so, then you could be a copywriter, editor or writer. Are you analytically and strategically oriented? Then, for example, you might become an SEO professional. Make your own analogy.

Where is your ideal client?

Once you know your personal reasons and have decided who to serve, you can conduct a client survey. Social networks have great potential today and are an excellent starting point. Social apps allow your customers to speak for you. You can also interview ideal clients to build a relationship and gain a better insight into their wishes.

Do you have the right systems for a business?

Running a business requires not only strategy and perseverance, but also the right systems to keep you organised even if you are busy. Most things are available online. Which e-mail service provider will you involve in your e-mail marketing strategy? What web hosting service will you use for your website? What will you enter externally? Who can you assign specific tasks to?

What media can you use to reach clients?

Today, most business professionals use the LinkedIn platform to connect with like-minded professionals. Facebook can also help you create specific groups and communities of people who share similar interests and values. Do some research and obtain the right tools.

Are you ready to be the director of your own life?

As an entrepreneur and independent professional, you must take responsibility and be fully responsible for your own life. What works for some people may not work for everyone. Being an entrepreneur means knowing what works best for you and maximising your full potential.
