The end of the year is approaching and so do corporate Christmas parties. Magazines and websites focused on management are full of tips on how to behave properly at the party and avoid any damage to your career. We can also read how the party can be used to build important contacts for our future career. We know that we should not drink, slander our bosses or clients, sexually harass our colleagues etc. Everywhere they look, the employees responsible for the preparation of the party can read that their main responsibility is to avoid any problems and especially to ensure that nobody will sue the company after the party.

It is certainly truth that we should celebrate in moderation. However, we should not forget about having fun - both during the preparation and the actual party. That is why the Fortune Magazine summarized the following list of the worst recommendations for corporate parties.

Nominate an informer

Choose an HR person or a manager to be responsible for monitoring the participants' behavior at the party and ensure it will remain professional.

Set special party planning meetings

Appoint a committee to organize the party and ensure that your whole team regularly attends its meetings.

Remind of appropriate behavior

Send a memo to all your employees highlighting the party is a business-related issue and everyone is obliged to behave appropriately.

Ban anything provocative

Explicitly ban "suggestive" gifts, "provocative" decorations or clothing and "risky" entertainment.

Ban dancing

If a music group or a DJ performs at you party, do not allow them to play slow songs.

Hold the party during the day

Arrange the party early in the afternoon or even better as a family event. It will help you limit the consumption of alcohol.
