TÜV SÜD oslaví v roce 2016 150 let své existence – a jako nejstarší TÜV také 150. narozeniny myšlenky technické bezpečnosti v Německu. 22 bádenských společností založilo 6. ledna 1866 „Společnost pro dohled a zabezpečení parních kotlů se sídlem v Mannheimu“. Tento nápad se zrodil z neštěstí, k němuž došlo zhruba o rok dříve v Mannheimském pivovaru.
