Find out what times of the day you concentrate best
Circadian rhythms and daily cycles are not esoteric fiction. We all function better or worse at different times of the day. Your job is to work out at what stage of the day you concentrate best, and then focus on your most important work tasks in that time slot.
Remember to take regular breaks
If you try to concentrate intensely without any breaks, you will either become tired very quickly or your efficiency and productivity will start to decline. To keep your mind prepared to concentrate deeply, you need to allow it to rest for a while every hour or hour and a half.
Practise by retelling stories in your head
Stop being a passive receiver of news and entertainment. Instead, engage your brain a little. Next time you read a book or a newspaper article, or perhaps listen to a news story on the radio, sit down after the news is over and retell the story in your head as verbatim as you can.
Have a clear daily work plan
The inability to concentrate on a task often stems from the fact people subconsciously wonder whether they should be working on something else or they think about the tasks that await them later. Avoid such distractions by setting a clear daily schedule of your work activities in advance. Then when you are working on something, you will know you do not have to think about anything else at that moment.
Learn to prioritise effectively
It is impossible to concentrate deeply and intensely while working on every single task you have to do during the day. For this reason, you need to prioritise well and only allocate deep work to the most important tasks that actually require it.
