Avoiding conflict preserves calm only in the short term. Over time, it raises costs and weakens trust in the manager

A manager may postpone an uncomfortable conversation in an effort to preserve good relationships. The problem does not disappear, however. Vague feedback allows inappropriate behavior to take root, other team members take over the work and gradually lose trust in leadership. Conflict is therefore cheaper to address while it is still specific and has not spread across the whole group.
