When will the sale of petrol and diesel cars end?

The British government has just announced that it will ban the sale of cars powered by petrol and diesel from 2040. By 2050, all cars on British roads should be electric and produce zero emissions.

The same goals were set by other countries as well, namely France, Norway and India. Other countries, moreover, set their target sales volumes for electric cars. However, the question is whether these are realistic goals.

Today, the sale of electric cars accounts for about 3% of the overall car sales market in the world. 95% of all electric vehicles are sold only in 10 countries. Car makers consider these goals rather unrealistic and see primarily the ambitions of world politicians. They are waiting for specific measures to be enacted.
