The period of summer holidays is mostly behind us. Those of you who save your vacation for September or who are just returning to work could, however, appreciate some tips on how to make the return as pleasant as possible. The website of the British newspaper The Guardian came up with the following recommendations.
1. Take one more day of vacation
After returning from a holiday, enjoy another free day for acclimatization. Monday is ideal. A four-day work week will far more enjoyable after the holiday.
2. Prepare in advance
To avoid unpleasant surprises after coming to office, call a colleague the night before or check your e-mail and delete everything you will not manage.
3. Build your to-do list
Do not start working mindlessly without a plan. Compile a list of priority tasks for the next two days and a list of long-term projects you need to handle. Try not to schedule external meetings for the first days.
4. Save the mail for later
If you did not check your e-mail, move all the e-mails that have remained in your incoming mail into a separate folder. Do not handle the mail in this folder until people start to contact you because you have not answered their e-mails so far. If you have to go through the e-mail a message after a message, make sure that your superiors know it and they will not give you another work.
5. Do not turn off your out-of-office message
Let your automated message about your absence in your e-mail box a day longer on and focus on strategic planning.
6. Use your motivation to change
Show that you have returned with new energy and ideas. Think about where you have been unnecessarily wasting time and suggest changes.
7. Book the next holiday
If you have something to look forward again, your can manage the return to work better.
