Web content creation

What should you put on your website? And how hard is it to write web content? The answer, of course, depends on what kind of site you want. But for most small businesses, there are some pretty basic requirements for website content. Here's what to include on your site.

  • Your logo in the header. People expect your logo to appear in the upper left corner of the site.
  • Company name. The name cannot be inserted into the image: search engines would have trouble reading it. Thus if your business name isn't in text format, Google won't see it. So place it outside your graphics.
  • Your contact information. Provide an address with a link to Google Maps that can be clicked on if you have a physical location and include a contact phone number. This information should be easily accessible within a few seconds. A contact connection in the header or footer is ideal.
  • What you do. In the introduction, in an easily accessible place, you should say what you do (and in as few words as possible). For example, Uber used graphics with a smiling car driver and the text "Get there." It might be hard for you to be so succinct, but such an idea is priceless.
  • Write for customers, not for yourself. A short introduction to the company, one that satisfies even SEO, will suffice. Today, no one wants to read long texts about a company. Instead, focus more on content that tells customers what you can offer them to help meet their needs.
  • Update the content. If your site is outdated, your customers will believe that your business is as well. Keep content fresh, relevant, current.
  • Standardise. You need a home page, contact page and pages with an offer or solution for visitors, or a blog or news. Don't bother with a multi-page history of the company, etc. Be brief and maintain the website in a clear form.

The fourth part in the series will focus on offering value to visitors through the web.
