What will happen when we no loger have to work?

Intelligent machines change and improve our lives in many ways. However, given the rapid development of artificial intelligence, it's high time for us to start addressing the related ethical dilemmas. According to the World Economic Forum, AI experts are looking for answers to the following ethical issues.

1. The end of employing people

One day, machines will be able to do all work better and more effectively than humans. What will people do if they don't have to work for most of the day to feed themselves? Ideally, we should find non-work activities that would be beneficial for all of society.

2. The new economy

How will the new economy work if it's no longer based on labor? Will all the money go into the hands of a few individuals who own companies controlled by artificial intelligence? That's how it can't work. It's necessary to work out incomes for those who will no longer be working.

3. Human-machine relations

Machines will have an increasing impact on how people behave and communicate with each other. They're already able to control our thinking today by having learned how to give us certain content and catch our attention. They are able to imitate human behavior better, but they are still machines. It is therefore a question of whether we can use them to improve human behavior or vice versa.

4. Machines making mistakes

An intelligent machine must first go through a learning phase when it learns how to function properly. However, it is not possible to teach machines all the situations that may occur in real life. That's why it's always necessary to make sure that machines work the way they should, and nobody misuses them for his or her personal interests, against a group of people, etc.

5. Ensuring people's safety

Machines will replace soldiers and weapons, and wars will no longer take place only on battlefields. Cybernetic security will become a crucial issue. That will, however, include all intelligent machines that could be misused against people, not just military ones. Another issue is the fact that machines may turn themselves against people. What if a machine evaluates killing some of us or even all of us as the best possible solution to a task?

6. People losing their exceptional position

People are at the forefront of the food chain and our world thanks to their intelligence and ingenuity. But what happens when machines overtake us in this area and we no longer have the power to control them? Theoretically, it's possible that we won't be able to simply turn off the machines, as they will anticipate it and defend themselves.

7. Robot rights and feelings

Intelligent machines are becoming more and more people-like. When robots become entities able to perceive, feel and act independently, will they have their own rights? Are we going to treat them like animals with similar intelligence? Will we be touched when these feeling machines suffer from something?

Artificial intelligence has tremendous potential and it is up to us how responsibly we can approach it.
