Starting your new job on the right foot

When starting a new job, everyone wants to make a good impression, however, the nervousness often prevents people from avoiding fundamental mistakes. Therefore, we have compiled a list of recommendations for you on what to watch out for especially when embarking on a new managerial position. We have based it on the article entitled "9 Ways To Make The Wrong Impression On Your First Day", which was published on careerealism.com server.

1. Do not come tired and disheveled

As you well know, the first sight plays a crucial role. Therefore have a good sleep on the night before your first day at a new work and come in suitable clothing. Try to find out in advance to see if the company has formal dress code rules for employees. Even if they do not have any exact rules, the proper personal hygiene and clean wrinkle resistant clothing is of course a must.

2. Do not complain and do not overwhelm your colleagues with information

Be careful not to make a bad first impression due to being negative in the beginning. Do not complain that you have had to park your car too far away from the entrance to the company or that you find training for new employees boring. You would only spoil the mood of your new colleagues. You can also spoil it by talking all the time from the first minute. At the moment when you meet them for the first time they are not interested in why you left your previous job or under what circumstances your children were born.

3. Do not flirt but do not refuse invitation for lunch

Flirting with colleagues can quickly spoil your reputation. This does not mean that you should not try to get acquainted with your new colleagues. When they invite you for lunch or other event outside the company, do not refuse. That would only mean that you are avoiding team activities.

4. Do not force others to adapt to you

The fact that a certain workflow worked in your previous job certainly does not mean that it would work here. Remember the local corporate culture you have just joined and consider well whether your current way of working can be beneficial for the company, or whether you just do not want to get rid of your old habits.

5. Do not forget to thank and to show your enthusiasm

Express your gratitude to all colleagues who offer you help in your beginning. Remember to show that you are looking forward to a new job. The enthusiasm is as contagious as negativity and it is only up to you, which path you choose.
