Annoying your manager: Guide for beginners

Your manager will not be happy when you try to delegate your problems upward or when it turns out that you sometimes indicate a lack of common sense. What are some of the other most annoying things you can do to make your boss angry? Check out this list by the management.about.com website.

Poor prioritizing skills

When you are an experienced worker, you should know what is important and what can wait. More tasks should not be a serious problem for you. Not knowing which one deserves more or less attention makes you look helpless and ineffective. The same is true is when others have to remind you way to often. The worst is when your manager asks for a piece of information or for you to do something, and you fail to find or do it.

You complain about your manager

Of course, we always do that, from time to time. It’s almost natural. Don’t overdo it. To be safe, assume that everything you say can get back to your manager sooner or later. The worst of all is to challenge your own manager when his boss is present. Bring up your concerns or disagreement privately, never embarrass your manager when a superior is there to witness it.

Not being accountable then making excuses

When you made a mistake, just fix it. Don’t blame the conditions or point your finger at somebody else.

You are not a team player

What does a team player do? He offers help to others when they are buried with work. He doesn’t annoy his colleagues. He attempts to resolve his conflicts with a teammate on his own, before he runs to his boss to complain.

You treat your boss way too nice

It seems like you are always sucking up. No extravagant expensive birthday presents, no crazy exaggerated praise.

Lack of information

We all hate preparing status reports, but managers need to be informed. If you have made a mistake, your boss should be one of the first to know.
